Valószíűleg a jelenlegi szín marad.

Malaysian Grand Prix – Preview
Monday 13 March 2006

Fresh from the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, the F1 circus is now en route to the second part of a challenging double-header. The Malaysian Grand Prix has been held at Kuala Lumpur's Sepang circuit since 1999 and it usually provides the year's hottest and most humid race. Ambient temperatures can reach in excess of 35°C, providing a unique challenge for drivers and engineers alike. Panasonic Toyota Racing's drivers Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli arrive in the Far East hoping for an improvement on last weekend's performance as the team bids to get its 2006 campaign on track. The team's strong performances over the last 12 months show that the potential is there to move back up the grid.

THE WHOLE SEPANG
Ralf Schumacher heads to Malaysia looking for signs of improvement after the difficulties of Bahrain.

Ralf Schumacher (Car 7): "After a disappointing performance in Bahrain we are now heading directly to Malaysia. Of course we will face completely different conditions in Sepang, where both drivers and engineers face the extra challenge of the heat and the humidity. I am going to use two to three days in Malaysia to just get used to the climate there, to work out and be in my best physical shape possible to go to the race. The facilities at the circuit are great, they are state-of-the-art and very beautiful. It's a very fast, wide, swinging track with good overtaking opportunities. I have had some great races there, so I'm looking forward to going back. I hope we can use the data we collected in Bahrain to improve our performance for the second race of the year."

ONE LUMPUR TWO
Jarno Trulli took second place last year in Malaysia but his aims are more realistic for this weekend.

Jarno Trulli (Car 8): "The Sepang circuit is one of the modern breed of F1 circuits, with facilities that are state-of-the-art. Last year's race was my favourite of the entire season, when we were able to take Toyota's first podium. Of course our form in Bahrain suggests that this year's race will be much harder. We were expecting a better start but now we have to work to improve our performance. Of course we cannot change much in time for Malaysia but hopefully we can keep up the learning process with the aim of moving up over the next few races. The new qualifying system has gone down well but we saw in Bahrain how chaotic it can be with all the traffic out at the same time."

LEARNING CURVE
Panasonic Toyota Racing heads to the Malaysian GP looking to learn more about its new package.

Luca Marmorini – Technical Director Engine: "Obviously the Bahrain Grand Prix was a major disappointment to everyone in the team because we were not where we hoped we would be. But the season is long and we will be pushing to improve our performance. Sepang may come a bit soon to have any major impact but we have at least collected data from the Bahrain weekend that should help us. The new qualifying system is an interesting new challenge which we enjoyed, so we hope to learn more about that over the next few races. These first two back-to-back races make for a tough start to the year because of the heat of Malaysia, which will be 20°C higher than anything we encountered during pre-season testing. Overall we have to look to these first flyaway races as a learning curve to understand our new package and the new regulations so that we can be ready to have a full package when we go back to Europe."

Malaysian Grand Prix - Free Practice Round-Up
Friday 17 March 2006

After its disappointing performance last week in Bahrain, Panasonic Toyota Racing today began its quest for improvement during free practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix. On a hot but cloudy day at the Sepang circuit near Kuala Lumpur, Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli put in their first laps of what promises to be a challenging weekend. Both drivers put in more laps than usual for a Friday as Toyota seeks to learn how to make the most of its new package. Ralf and Jarno completed their programmes of tyre comparison and set-up work and will now look to continue the learning process over the rest of the weekend.

MALAY SCHOOL
Jarno Trulli worked hard to gain information to help Toyota progress from last week's performance.

Jarno Trulli (Car 8, Chassis TF106/04)
First Session Classification: 12th, 8 laps completed
Lap Time: 1m38.837s (+3.891s)
Second Session Classification: 11th, 23 laps completed
Lap Time: 1m37.317s (+2.276s)

"We spent the two sessions trying to collect more data on our new package. Our grip level is not yet there and although we look slightly more competitive than in Bahrain we still have work to do. Our challenge is to get the car and tyres working together. For that we need to carry out a detailed analysis, but of course there has been no chance to test since Bahrain so we will have to continue that work this weekend. I am sure we have not seen the true potential of our car yet. We understand the problem but the solution is not straightforward. We are obviously looking to have a better race than we had in Bahrain but the important thing for us is to spend these early race weekends getting to the root of the problem."

GETTING A GRIP
After the difficulties of Bahrain, Ralf Schumacher was happier with his TF106 around the Sepang circuit.

Ralf Schumacher  (Car 7, Chassis TF106/05)
First Session Classification: 9th, 9 laps completed
Lap Time: 1m37.826s (+2.880s)
Second Session Classification: 17th, 20 laps completed
Lap Time: 1m37.695s (+2.654s)

"Today we completed more running than usual because we are still trying to find out how to make the most of our package. We've been struggling for grip and the Bahrain weekend showed us we still have a way to go. But today the car felt much better and the grip level has increased quite a lot. The traction and the tyres seem to be working better with this track surface and the heat. I was caught in traffic on my last run so we could have further improved our time. Our aim this weekend has to be to collect information for future races but we have already collected some useful data. So that's an encouraging start."

THE DATA DAY
It was a hard day of preparation for Panasonic Toyota Racing in preparation for Sunday's Malaysian GP.

Dieter Gass – Chief Engineer Race and Test
"Today we made a step forward from what we saw in Bahrain. We've done a lot of work on the tyre and the set-up and we've collected some good information, especially from the tyres. For tomorrow we will try to improve the set-up of the cars. We did more running than we normally do because we saved some mileage last weekend which we can use here to get the maximum information possible. Given all that, we have plenty of information with which to make the tyre choice. It's still a bit early to say how much the conditions here will affect our performance. But given that we have struggled to get temperature into the tyres the higher track temperature should help us."

Paul Ricard Test: Day 1
Wednesday 22 March 2006

Location: Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France
Drivers: Ralf Schumacher, Ricardo Zonta
Track Length: 3.818km

After making headway at the Malaysian Grand Prix last week, Panasonic Toyota Racing returns to testing at the Circuit Paul Ricard with a long list of test items to go through in preparation for the upcoming race in Australia. The team is focussing on the tyre programme, especially running through different set-ups and tyre temperatures to gain data on the overall behaviour of the car with the tyres. Ralf Schumacher and Ricardo Zonta who were on the track testing today, were hampered in the morning by cool weather, however once temperatures improved, both were able do some running and evaluations. Jarno Trulli and Ricardo Zonta are planned to drive tomorrow.

RISE AND SHINE
Ricardo Zonta - Chassis TF106/02
Best Lap Time: 1m06.311s
Total laps: 79
Total Distance: 301.622km

"We had a slow start in morning and had to therefore wait for warmer temperatures. At lunchtime, we really began working on our tyre programme, achieving everything we had planned. I was driving the old car trying different compounds, different temperature settings on the tyres, and balance set-ups. We will continue to work on some different items and tomorrow should be better as the temperatures are supposed to rise."

IT'S NOT SO EASY AS IT SEEMS
Ralf Schumacher had a difficult day driving due to electronic problems.

Ralf Schumacher - Chassis TF106/01
Best Lap Time: 1m07.060s
Total laps: 40
Total Distance: 152.72km

"In general it was very cold, so we were suffering with the warm-up of the tyre temperatures. In the afternoon, I put in some running but had some electronic issues and therefore stopped the car to prevent any further problems. Although the day does not seem as successful, the team will carry on with Jarno and Ricardo tomorrow and I am sure that we will gain some insight for the next race."

CHANGE OF PLANS
While Ralf finished up his testing for this week and now heads to Australia, Gerd Pfeiffer, Test Team Manager comments on the day's testing looks forward to further results.

"We did some construction tests today to see that we get a good temperature in the tyres with different set-ups on the car.  We have found some interesting results and we will continue to work on this for the next two days. We have decided to change the driver line-up for tomorrow, exchanging Ralf with Jarno, as we are anticipating bad weather on Friday and this will give Jarno an equal opportunity to put in some good running."

Paul Ricard Test: Day 2
Thursday 23 March 2006

Location: Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France
Drivers: Jarno Trulli, Ricardo Zonta
Track Length: 3.818km

Panasonic Toyota Racing continued its testing programme today at the Circuit Paul Ricard. Although there was a strong breeze blowing the whole day, the sun was shining and temperatures were moderate enough for both Jarno Trulli and Ricardo Zonta to put in some good running. In the morning both drivers continued testing different set-ups, while the afternoon was spent trying a new softer Bridgestone tyre compound. Testing is planned to carry on tomorrow with Olivier Panis and Ricardo Zonta.

SOFT SHELL
Jarno Trulli joined the test session a day earlier to get the most out of the good weather in the south of France.

Jarno Trulli - Chassis TF106/01
Best Lap Time: 1m05.702s
Total laps: 72
Total Distance: 274.896km

"We worked on more tyre and set-up testing to evaluate tyres for Australia because so far we have just found out that we have to go softer on our car in order to make the car work. At any rate we are looking at many options to understand how the car is behaving. One step is to work with a softer compound, which we were using this afternoon. Overall, we are mainly pushing hard this week to be competitive at the next races and I am sure we will have some interesting data to take with us to Australia."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICARDO!
Even on his 30th birthday, Ricardo Zonta was in action at Paul Ricard putting in 121 laps. Once the test session was completed, he celebrated with the team, having dinner and blowing out candles on his birthday cake.

Ricardo Zonta - Chassis TF106/02
Best Lap Time: 1m05.738s
Total laps: 121
Total Distance: 461.978km

"Today was quite good, and everything worked well. The wind in the morning was upsetting the car in the fast corners but the track was cleaner and hotter than yesterday, so this was better for us. We found some positive results with the warming up and consistency of the tyres on my car and this is definitely good for the future. In addition, everything was reliable on the car. We did 121 laps without any problems and this was also an encouraging factor."

BUILDING BRIDGES(TONES)
Gerd Pfeiffer, Test Team Manager summarizes the day's testing.

"Today was a good day as we got through a lot of test items for the coming races. With both drivers we focused on gaining data for the tyre choice in Australia. Yesterday we worked with new constructions, whereas today we tried some new compounds. Tomorrow, we will do some long runs and work more with the new compounds."

Fuji Speedway to Host the 2007 Japanese F1 Grand Prix

FUJI INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY CO., LTD. (Fuji Speedway: Dr. Akihiko Saito, Chairman & CEO) and FORMULA ONE ADMINISTRATION LIMITED (FOA: Mr. Bernard Charles Ecclestone, Chairman & CEO) agreed that Fuji Speedway will host the 2007 Japanese Formula One Grand Prix, which will be held in October 2007, of the FIA Formula One World Championship (F1).

Since the commemoration of its opening nearly 40 years ago in 1966, Fuji Speedway as one of the fastest circuits in the world has been the stage for numerous international and domestic car races of sport cars, grand touring cars, and formula cars.

Fuji Speedway used to host the first and second Japanese F1 Grand Prix in 1976 and 1977. The 2007 Japanese F1 GP will mark the thirty years anniversary.

In 2005 Fuji Speedway completed its overall renovation of the international racecourse and related facilities. When opening the renewal circuit, Fuji Speedway became certified to hold F1 races since it earned "Grade 1" license from the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile).

FOA: Mr. Bernard Charles Ecclestone's comment: "We, at FOA, have the pleasure that Fuji Speedway, as the brand new venue nestled at the foot of the most majestic Mt. Fuji, will be the new home of Japanese F1 Grand Prix. We also have a good expectation that the F1 event there would be the opening of new era of Formula One history."

Paul Ricard Test: Round-Up
Friday 24 March 2006

Location: Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France
Drivers: Ricardo Zonta, Olivier Panis
Track Length: 3.818km

Drivers:
Jarno Trulli   Best lap: 1m05.702s, total laps: 72
Ricardo Zonta   Best lap: 1m05.738s, total laps: 339
Ralf Schumacher   Best lap: 1m07.060s, total laps: 40
Olivier Panis   Best lap: 1m07.851s, total laps: 110

On the third and last day of Panasonic Toyota Racing's test session at Circuit Paul Ricard, Olivier Panis and Ricardo Zonta were present and put in over a combined 249 laps, even though the morning session started out slow due to the track being damp and slippery from the evening's rainfall. The additional wind caused the team to wait until the track dried out. Yet, in the afternoon, both drivers were able to finish some long runs on the newer tyre compounds supplied by Bridgestone. Over the last three days, the team worked extensively on the tyre programme, testing new constructions and compounds, as well as performing set-up evaluations in preparation for the Australian Grand Prix.

BEGINNING TO SEE THE LIGHT
Having put in 339 laps over the last three days, Ricardo Zonta finds Toyota is gradually getting on the right track.

Ricardo Zonta - Chassis TF106/01
Best Lap Time: 1m06.949s
Total laps: 139
Total Distance: 530.702km

"We continued today with tyre testing. I did three long runs in the morning and another three in the afternoon because the track temperature changed over the day, and therefore we repeated the test. This was very important for Melbourne because we will make the tyre decision for this race based on these runs. I feel this test has brought encouraging results, nevertheless the team will push forward and continue to work on finding the best solutions for the coming races."

EYE ON PROVENCE
Frenchman Olivier Panis felt at home returning to the Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France, where he assisted the team in making preparations for the next grand prix.

Olivier Panis - Chassis TF106/02
Best Lap Time: 1m07.851s
Total laps: 110
Total Distance: 419.98km

"The test went well and it looks constructive for the team. When we started this morning, the track conditions were cold and damp, but we used the weather to our advantage, testing wet tyres in the morning and dry tyres in the afternoon. Everyone worked hard and we are still sorting out the car set-up, but the results from this test give us some positive insight for the next race and tests."

THE OZ CAR NOMINATION
Panasonic Toyota Racing finishes its three-day testing in Le Castellet, having focused on tyre testing and car behaviour for the grand prix in Australia.

Gerd Pfeiffer, Test Team Manager
"We have used the last three days to gain data on the car and how it behaves with various tyre constructions and compounds. Both Ricardo and Olivier were very thorough with their feedback today and based on this as well as the results that we have collected, we have decided on the tyre choice for Melbourne. We know that the next races will be challenging and that we still have work to do, but we are confident we are heading in the right direction."

Australian Grand Prix – Preview
Monday 27 March 2006

After the punishing double-header to kick off the 2006 season, the Formula 1 world now travels to the other side of the world for round three. For the last decade the Australian Grand Prix has held the honour of opening the calendar but a clash with this month's Commonwealth Games in Melbourne led to this change of schedule. The later start means that the teams can expect slightly cooler weather than usual as the Australian autumn draws in. Panasonic Toyota Racing's drivers Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli will nevertheless hope to continue the learning process that the team has been involved in since its difficult start to the year. Rest assured that Toyota will push to build on its points finish in Malaysia.

DOWN UNDER STREET
After his point in Malaysia, Ralf Schumacher is looking forward to the streets of Melbourne's Albert Park.

Ralf Schumacher (Car 7): "After Malaysia I returned to Europe for testing as we look to improve on our start to the year. Heating up the tyres has been a problem for us, so Australia will show us how far we've come. It is not usually particularly warm there and this race is taking place later than usual in their autumn. Because it is a street circuit, the track surface at Melbourne's Albert Park track tends to be dirty, so it could be hard to find grip, especially in the first lap of qualifying. But I do like the circuit – it is one of the most beautiful street circuits there is and also among the safest. The city itself is also one of my favourites on the calendar, so it all combines to make the Australian Grand Prix an exciting event. A difficult weekend awaits but I hope we can continue to push hard and use the data that we have collected so far this year to help pushing up the grid."

MELBOURNE TO RUN
Jarno Trulli is prepared for testing times as Toyota works to solve its problems in the early part of 2006.

Jarno Trulli (Car 8): "Melbourne is a fantastic venue for F1 and the atmosphere is always great. I normally arrive early to put in some training outdoors but this year both Ralf and I returned to Europe last week to test the TF106 at Paul Ricard. I enjoy driving at Albert Park, especially the quick chicane at Turns 11 and 12. The track can be quite bumpy and you need a lot of grip and traction, particularly in the slow corners like Jones, Clark, Ascari and Prost. Given our problems with warming up our tyres in Bahrain the cool weather could be difficult for us but we will use the weekend to understand more about how to make improvements to how our car works with our tyres. There is no question about the motivation of the whole team to get back to the level where we can race at the front of the grid."

AUSSIE COOLS
Toyota hopes to build on its Malaysia form even with the lower temperatures expected in Australia.

Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director Chassis: "The Malaysian Grand Prix was a big improvement on Bahrain because we were able to get more heat into our tyres. We suffered in Malaysia because of Ralf's engine change and set-up issues with Jarno but now that we have our season back on track we've got to look to have a competitive weekend. Melbourne is a street circuit, so the track will evolve during the weekend. Obviously we will have cooler conditions in Australia so we have to keep a very close eye on getting the tyre to work. But I am sure we now have a better idea of how to do that so I hope we will be able to cope with that particular situation. Our car is gentle on the tyres so we need to push so we are working at the softer end of the range compared to other Bridgestone partners. Then we can look to maintain our upward momentum."

Nagy cirkusz kezdődik a száguldó cirkuszban

A 2008-ra tervezett szabálymódosítások a fentieket szorgalmaznák.

Most kiderült: a Toyota nem akar mindenáron maradni.

Ellenkező esetben nincs értelme folytatni a versenyzést.

Toyota Motorsport and Mike Gascoyne part company
Thursday 6 April 2006

Toyota Motorsport and its Technical Director Chassis, Mike Gascoyne, have reached a mutual agreement which will see both parties terminate their working relationship with immediate effect. Gascoyne will remain a fully contracted employee of Toyota Motorsport until the end of October 2006.

Toyota Motorsport and Mike Gascoyne have developed different opinions about the future direction of the technical operations in the team's chassis and engineering areas, which have resulted in the need for a change on both sides. Toyota Motorsport and Mike Gascoyne have both agreed that a separation has become necessary.

Gascoyne has been based primarily in Germany since he joined Toyota's Cologne-based Formula 1 team in December 2003. After such a long period of time based away from home, this decision will enable him to spend more time with his family.

Mike Gascoyne said: "Obviously, it is the end of an era but nobody can dispute that Toyota has made a big step forward over the last two seasons. We have now reached a crossroads in our working relationship and I believe that it is the right time for us to part ways amicably and for me to move back to the UK where I can also enjoy spending more time with my family. I extend my thanks to all members of the team and wish them a successful future in Formula 1."

Tsutomu Tomita, Chairman of Toyota Motorsport said: "Although we have reached a joint decision to go our separate ways, I wish to extend my sincerest gratitude to Mike for the indisputable contribution he has made to our team over the last few years. This separation should in no way undermine the work he has done, nor reflect his technical expertise. We all wish him well for the future."
